Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was a member of a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. She covered many notable stories such as weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
